City Overview

Las Vegas is an internationally renowned major resort city known primarily for its gambling, entertainment, and nightlife. Las Vegas is Spanish for "The Meadows" and was established in 1911.

The city promotes itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, and is famous for its mega casino–hotels and associated activities. The city's tolerance for numerous forms of adult entertainment earned it the title of Sin City by some people.

The Las Vegas gay scene has a friendly and small-town feel. There are a number of vibrant gay bars and clubs for all types.

Getting Around

Within Las Vegas there as numerous free shuttles operated by the various hotels and casinos to move visitors back and forth between the main strip and where you are staying.

As the majority of visitors to the city are there for entertainment and gambling these shuttles or walking is the best way to get around the central part of the city.

Airport Transfer

McCarran International Airport is the main airport for Las Vegas. Shuttle vans and buses operated by different companies are a popular and convenient transport option to taking a taxi.

Las Vegas shared shuttle vans are located on the west side of baggage claim, outside exits 7-13 at McCarran International Airport. They operate a first come first serve service. Once the van is full the van departs and the driver will drop off passengers by those closest to airport first. If your hotel is the furthest away from the airport you will have to wait for the other passengers to be dropped off at their respective hotels before arriving at your hotel.

Places to stay

Las Vegas has one exclusively gay resort for 12 years but this was recently sold and the business will be developed into a much larger hotel project. There are however a number of very gay friendly places to stay. It is a city that has many conventions and corporate events so it is always wise to book your accommodation in advance to guarantee availability and choice.

Sightseeing

Whilst the majority of people visit Vegas for the entertainment and gambling there are other options to spend your time. The city has several museums.

Neon Museum has many of the historical signs from Las Vegas's mid-20th century heyday and covered the development of the city. The other museums are the Mob Museum, the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, the Nevada State Museum and the Old Las Vegas Mormon State Historic Park.

The city also has an extensive Downtown Arts District, which hosts numerous galleries and events including the annual Las Vegas Film Festival.

Bars, Clubs & Parties

The gay bars are sprinkled throughout the city they are mainly in 2 sections of the city and a couple close to Las Vegas main strip.  The "Fruit Loop" on Paradise is basically a collection of three malls around a gay bar and a club. The Commercial Centre off Sahara Avenue also has a few bars.

Around Strip Bars & Clubs

Flair Night Club is a relaxed easy-going fun bar with cabaret, go-go dancers, karaoke and pop dance music. Address 1700 East Flamingo Road.

Flex is a local bar close to the main Las Vegas strip. A short cab ride from the Strip the bar offers a place to dance, go-go boys, and amateur strip contests. Address 4371 W Charleston Boulevard.

Fruit Loop Area Bars & Clubs

FreeZone is a casual down to earth bar to grab drink and food from the bar menu. A bar with friendly bartenders, diverse crowd, and drag shows. Address 610 East Naples Drive.

Fun Hog Ranch is a relaxed bar for leathers and Levis type guys. Everyone is welcome to enjoy drink specials, a jukebox and video poker. Address 495 East Twain Avenue.

Piranha Boutique Nightclub is a popular dance club for those that want to party late into night. The bar has a tank with live piranhas hence the name. Address 4633 Paradise Road.

QuadZ Video Bar is a casual round the clock gaming and video bar offering beers, cocktails, darts and pool. Address 4640 Paradise Road.

Sahara Avenue Area Bars & Clubs

Badlands Saloon is a local country/western bar friendly locals’ bar. The jukebox plays mainly country music. Address 953 East Sahara Avenue.

The Phoenix Bar is an easy-going bar and lounge with dance floor, drag shows and karaoke. Address 4213 West Sahara Avenue.

Cafes & Restaurants

Las Vegas has all types of food for all types of budget from casual to fine dining. You decide on what you want to eat and budget you want to spend and then just explore to find a place to stop and eat.

Shopping

The main areas for shopping are all situated around the main Vegas strip close to the casinos. If you want to shop suggest you explore these shopping malls and if you are looking to go to an outlet mall ask at your hotel for details
